Chef Peter Merriman's ground-floor oceanfront flagship at Outrigger Reef. Famous lilikoi-foam mai tai, Kula Strawberry Cream pie, two happy hours daily (morning AND afternoon).
Monkeypod's Waikiki location is the one you visit when you want the famous mai tai (lilikoi foam, mac-nut orgeat, the Instagram drink) without driving to Ko Olina or Wailea. The Outrigger Reef setting puts you steps from Waikiki Beach, the daily afternoon happy hour cuts the price of that mai tai by $4, and the cream pies are worth ordering whether you've eaten or not. Two happy hours per day — morning and afternoon — make this the easiest "yes" in this hotel.
Opened in Waikiki inside the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort and immediately became the property's marquee dining room — ground-floor, oceanfront, breakfast through late-night, with Chef Peter Merriman's name (one of the founders of Hawaii Regional Cuisine) on the door. The signature is the Monkeypod Mai Tai, a Kula silver + Kula dark rum build over house-made macadamia nut orgeat with a honey-lilikoi foam crown — it's become a tourist target in its own right. The other half of the legend is the dessert pies, made daily from scratch with local fruit.
